Repairing or Redesigning a family treasure

Fine jewellery can carry great sentimental value especially when it is handed down through generations. There is currently a surge in the trend for the reinvention of old or broken pieces of unworn jewellery which can actually be not only a sound investment emotionally but also financially.

A fine jewellery gift or family treasure can last for many generations… but when jewellery is damaged or outdated, it can become nothing more than a keepsake hidden away at the back of a jewellery box or in a drawer – never to be worn again!

Whether broken pearl necklaces with broken settings, broken rings and missing or damaged gemstones, I can usually restore your jewellery within just six weeks. If the piece is no longer worn due to it being old fashioned you may choose to give the piece a completely new lease of life with a more modern redesign.

This process takes a little longer but can be a truly exciting prospect and can also add significant value! I like to get client input at every stage of the redesign process working with you to choose which concepts are turned into 3D CAD renders and models which may be altered prior to manufacturing. Being closely involved in this way should mean that the piece spends more time being worn by you than languishing in storage.

It can seem hard to take apart a beautiful piece of original jewellery which has sentimental value, so be sure you truly are ready to give your jewels that new lease of life, but also try to keep in mind that Jewellery is made to be worn.  Reinventing an heirloom into a new piece of jewellery which reflects you, does make it more likely that you will wear and enjoy it!  It is also a great way to keep the memories of loved ones alive and it can make them part of a story that you will no doubt tell people time and time again when the new piece is complete.
