September’s Birthstone is Sapphire

September’s Birthstone is Sapphire

By Heidi Kjeldsen - 20th September 2014

Hello everyone !

Welcome to my Blog and a very happy September to you all !

This month’s Birthstone is Sapphire and the flower is the beautiful Aster.

The scientific name for Sapphire is Corundum.  It is a hard gemstone (9 on the Moh’s scale), which makes it eminently suitable for use in enagement rings as it stands the test of time, showing little wear over the years if looked after well.

The most beautiful Sapphires are found today in Sri Lanka (hence the well known, Ceylon Sapphires) and in Africa, although fine specimens do occur in other parts of the world too.

The most sought after and valuable are those with excellent clarity, beautifully cut and exhibit a deep Royal or paler Violet Blue.

Well as we wave goodbye to our glorious Summer and hope for some late sunshine and warmth before Autumn truly takes hold, I am going to endeavour to reintroduce my Blog inviting you to join me on a journey to learn a little more about my passion for jewellery and celebrate the beauty of gemstones

Each month I will showcase a gemstone or feature a significant date displaying pieces to both inspire and delight you…

A Sapphire’s Secrets…

From the bright blue of a clear September morning,

To the azure tones of a beautiful day,

Bewitching blues dancing at twilight…

After the fiery sunset has melted away

Threads of light linger on the horizon,

Grey-blue hues of an Autumn’s own night,

Dazzling yellow, orange, pink and purple

Fade gloriously into a velvety blue moonlight

Fascinated by a Cobalt blue ocean,

Powerfully hypnotic with enchanting allure,

The calm Ultramarine depth of the sea…

Colour fading as it reaches the shore

The Sapphire…gemstone of the sky,

Casting a spell over us with mystique,

With it’s beauty, brilliance and sparkle…

Exquisite, stunning and truly unique

Thank you for joining me. Please contact me by telephone, email or by visiting us in Mill Street, should you wish to know more about any of my jewellery or to commission something special.

Yours, Heidi.
